Greetings Race Fans!!
If you have not noticed already, The Discovery Channel has premiered a series “Toughest Race on Earth: Iditarod”. It is being broadcast on Tuesdays at 10pm EST. Tomorrow evening is the next installment so check your local listings! Jeff (and our entire crew) is very excited about this series!! Mark your calendars for that Tuesday time slot and let us know what you think! You can also check out the show via the Discovery Channel website by clicking here.
Since it is nearly the end of October (yes, we know… it’s been WAY to long since our last update… sorry!) we are definitely in training mode. A couple of trips have been made out to the Denali Highway with the race dogs and the crew is enjoying some good snow levels out there. As far as life around the Homestead, well we have some snow here too! It has been a few years since we have had enough snow to run sleds out of the yard this early in the season. That is making the crew and the dogs happy ~ and Virgil as well since he does such a great job at keeping our driveway plowed. 🙂
Way back in late August (back when it was still green here… glad that’s gone!) Donna and Erika (our rezervations agent) headed down to Kenai for an agility trial. Donna took Peg and Q, and Erika to her two Corgies Penny and Bruno. Everyone did great and they all enjoyed a nice weekend. Here’s a few pictures for you to check out…
Well, that will have to be all for now… but check back soon!! 🙂 Oh, and Happy Halloween!!

Very cool show. Thanks for letting the cameras into your world! Do the temperatures in the race vary from year to year or are they getting warming as part of a warming trend?
We visited the Husky Homestead mid Sept. and enjoyed learning about the dogs and the Iditarod race. We are watching the Discovery Channel show and it’s much more interesting since we had the opportunity to meet you.

I have just finished your book! Wow, could not put it down. Please write more about your dogsled adventures. Have followed the Iditarod race for years as an Iditarod insider and used it in my classroom when I was teaching. I feel like I have met you after reading your feelings about life in the book. I hope to visit your kennels this summer and attend the start of the race next year. Shey
